Rebuild Ukraine Conference 2025

The fifth offering of this exhibition is focused on providing a platform for recovery projects, materials, technologies, equipment and investments required to rebuild Ukraine's war-torn economy, with an emphasis on infrastructure, industry, energy and housing. Our CTO Allen Sandwell represented MakeSens at the conference, showcasing MakeSens's exciting new high performance battery materials and technologies to an audience in great need of those products. In this climate, the ability to be self sufficient to generate and store your own energy is critical. MakeSens is proud to be able to offer solutions that can help Ukraine and other countries in need to achieve energy independence through advanced battery materials and technologies.

MakeSens was in Detroit, Michigan for the 2025 Detroit Battery Show where our CEO Dr. Chaneel I. Park and CBO John Daugela promoted our next generation silicon-based battery anode materials and battery technology services. It was a great opportunity to showcase how with MakeSens' patented MBT1500 material companies can achieve significant improvements in battery performance and reductions in charging time.

MakeSens was in Detroit, Michigan for the 2025 Move America Conference hosted by Mobility Makers. It was a pleasure to showcase our silicon-based battery anode technology and how it can offer significant performance upgrades to existing lithium-ion batteries in terms of energy capacity and charging speed. If you had a chance to attend you would have seen our CTO Allen Sandwell and CBO John Daugela at the MakeSens booth and listened to a presentation by Allen on the concept of the circular economy and how the battery supply chain can be involved in extracting value and promoting environmental sustainability by incorporating material waste streams into their production.

We were grateful for the opportunity to share our unique silicon-based battery materials and offer high performance battery solutions to Canada as well as our allies abroad. The Canadian Association of Defense and Security Industries (CADSI) brought together a great collection of Canadian companies. As part of Team Canada, we were proud to showcase our innovative battery materials and solutions at DSEI UK 2025, a premier global event for the defence and security sector. Our participation underscored MakeSens' commitment to advancing technology and fostering international collaboration. We engaged with industry leaders, explored new partnerships, and highlighted the potential of our silicon-based anode materials in enhancing energy storage solutions for defence applications. We extend our sincere thanks to CADSI for facilitating this invaluable platform, allowing us to connect with key stakeholders and contribute to Canada's presence on the global stage.

First Batch of MWCNTs from Volta SPICE

We're excited to receive the first batch of MWCNTs from our partners at Volta SPICE! These MWCNTs are a critical component of MakeSens silicon anode technology, and the Volta team is customizing them to maximize performance while minimizing the carbon footprint. A core mission at MakeSens is to develop high quality, high perfomance battery materials. With a focus on the environment, we leverage waste streams from the solar cell and oil and gas industries in promotion of sustainable development and the circular economy. We are very happy to be working with Volta SPICE, a Canadian company that shares these values and utilizes Canada's natural resources to generate high value, low GHG carbon products able to help fuel the green economy. A big thank you to Volta Spice for their innovation and collaboration. We are thrilled to work together, taking the first steps toward strengthening Canada's clean energy manufacturing ecosystem.

We are very excited to share that we've published an article In the Journal of Materials Chemistry and Physics. This work highlights some of the foundational work done at MakeSens during the initial research of our next-generation silicon anode materials. It was especially helpful to hear real-world examples from those helping firms navigate these transitions every day. We appreciate the insightful reflections on the Honorable Timothy Hodgson’s remarks. The government's commitment to reducing bureaucratic barriers and strengthening infrastructure has the potential to invigorate local industries and boost economic growth. Canada, and particularly Alberta, stands at a crossroads, possessing both rich energy resources and critical minerals. This dual advantage presents incredible opportunities for industries spanning traditional energy and emerging renewable technologies. At MakeSens we are proud to contribute to Canada’s circular economy by repurposing byproducts from the Oil & Gas sector into our high quality battery materials. By transforming waste into valuable resources, we are helping to bridge the gap between legacy industries and the future of clean technology. However, Canada still lacks some crucial supply chain components necessary to fully utilize these battery materials in finished battery products. We see this as an opportunity for innovation and investment—one where companies like ours can help close the gaps and drive forward sustainable energy solutions.

Along with our CEO Dr. Chaneel I. Park CTO Allen Sandwell was able to visit Dr. Michael Pope's group in the 2D Materials and Electrochemical Devices Lab at Waterloo. They are doing some very interesting work in nanomaterial production with applications in energy storage, energy generation, sensing and separations. The main purpose of the trip was for Allen to attend the (CMSC) Canadian Materials Science Conference as a guest panelist. It was great to have him talk about his experience as an entrepreneur in the material production space. The discussion offered a lot of insights, anecdotes and words of wisdom. His co-panelists were also really amazing people doing excellent work. It was a pleasure to be part of such a great event.

In late March, MakeSens had the opportunity to attend the world-leading industrial trade show, Hannover Messe, as an official delegate for Team Canada. As part of the official Canadian delegation, MakeSens joined a world-class lineup of innovators, industry leaders, and government representatives to highlight Canada’s strengths in advanced manufacturing, clean technology, and digital transformation. We showcased our work in advanced battery materials and a new venture we have in providing expertise for companies looking to develop, characterize, and test their materials. As an exhibitor at the Energy Hall and presenter at the Eureka Global Innovation Summit, we are grateful for the opportunity to present our technology and engage in meaningful conversations to open doors for new global partnerships and collaboration. MakeSens is pleased to announce the appointment of John Daugela as its new Chief Business Officer (CBO). With a proven track record in scaling ventures from R&D to full-scale commercialization, John will play an integral role in expanding MakeSens’ market presence and strengthening strategic partnerships. John brings extensive experience in business development, commercialization, and revenue strategy, leading high-growth technology companies in the optics industry. He has previously held executive leadership positions, guiding innovative companies through market expansion and successful exits within the public market. Most recently, John served as a trustworthy advisor at Pure Vertical Capital Advisory. As a seasoned business professional, John’s expertise in navigating complex business landscapes, managing stakeholder relations, and driving innovation has positioned him as a recognized leader in the industry. With a background in high-technology industries, John has worked extensively on building scalable business models, securing key partnerships, and driving long-term growth. With his leadership as CBO, MakeSens is well-positioned to advance its mission and capitalize on new growth opportunities, shaping the Company’s future within the battery industry.
